What is FAGAT and why are we running this event?
FAGAT is an organization composed of nine member countries, to date: Japan, China, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. Its goal is to provide a common forum as well as the right environment for high quality information and technology exchange where Asian printers can best position the printing industry in a globally competitive market. The organization focuses not only on solving the changes and threats but also on developing the solutions to such challenges in order to create an effective path for the future.
PPTF is currently undertaking all necessary preparations to ensure that the event will turn out to be a resounding success. It is inviting the printing industry leaders, thinkers and innovators of all nine member countries together with some non-member countries (Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam) as guests and observers. Around 200 foreign guests are expected to attend the conference.
President Gloria Macapangal-Arroyo has been invited as keynote speaker.
Date: September 28-30, 2008
Venue: Sofitel Philippine Plaza
Theme: “The Printing and Graphic Arts Industry in the Globalization Era”.
President Brizuela formed the Philippine Institute of Graphic Arts Technology (PIGAT) which will act as the undertakers of the 10th FAGAT. According to him, this is one opportunity to prove to the international community that the Philippines is a beautiful and peaceful place. It is also an occasion to unite all the printing industry players -- not only the printers themselves but the ink, chemicals, paper and equipment manufacturers as well. Hence, the need to gather together in full force and assist PPTF since it is no longer simply the industry’s reputation that is involved but that of the entire country.

Resume of Organizer
To address the worsening situation of the industry, a group of businessmen coming from the print, graphic arts and communications sector got together, pooled their resources and discussed ways and means of resolving the issues. The focus was to complement machines with technical skills: good printing equipment do not produce quality printing alone. Thus on July 27, 1967, the group headed by a Dutch missionary, formed the Philippine Printing Technical Foundation (PPTF). Being a printer himself, Fr. Cornelio Lagerway of the Missionary of the Sacred Congregation saw the difficulties of the situation and took the task to himself.
PPTF is a private, non-stock member-supported, non-profit institution dedicated to the upliftment of the graphic arts communications industry through a program of manpower training and upgrading of knowledge and skills.
